Scott Baker has been the principal attorney of Baker & Associates, an A-V rated civil law firm since 1994. His practice focuses on providing counseling and litigation services to national and regional enterprises, and entrepreneurs in business, construction, intellectual property, trade secret and insurance related matters. He has been an effective advocate for his clients in trials, arbitrations, mediations, administrative hearings and appeals. He also represents clients in certain transactional matters such as negotiating and documenting business and construction and employment contracts and covenants not to compete.
Mr. Baker began his legal career in 1985 with the appointment to a Federal Judicial Clerkship for the Hon. Robert B. Krupansky of the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. In 1987, he moved to Los Angeles to work in the litigation departments of the business and entertainment firms of Weissmann, Wolff, Bergman, Coleman and Silverman, and Oberstein, Doniger and Fetter. He is admitted to practice law before all courts in California, Ohio and the District of Columbia.
During his career, Mr. Baker served as Chief West Coast Counsel for Agency Rent-A-Car, Inc., where he was responsible for litigation and transactional work in the areas of business, real estate, employment, insurance, advertising and personal injury law. In that capacity, Mr. Baker created and implemented audit and risk management guidelines, litigation cost controls, and training programs for attorneys, paralegals and adjusters.
Mr. Baker obtained his undergraduate degree with honors from The Ohio State University in Business Administration, and his Juris Doctorate from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where he served on the Moot Court Executive Board. He has devoted a significant amount of his time to pro bono activities as a volunteer arbitrator/mediator for the Los Angeles County Municipal and Superior Courts, Bet Tzedek Legal Services, dog park and rescue causes, and as a founding panel mediator for the U.S. District Court Mediation Program.
